Here are a few maintenance tips to keep your umbrella looking and working like new.
1. Fabric Care:
For lighter colored umbrellas, one of the best ways to keep your umbrella fabric in like-new condition is to remove the stains on a monthly basis. If the fabric gets dirty, wipe it off with a towel or a soft bristle brush. It is not recommended to soak the fabric.
For darker colored umbrellas, it is better to use an additional protective spray so it will not fade quickly.
2. Frame/pole Care:
Open or close it gently, do not too be too forceful. For the metal umbrellas that use the hand crank, if it gets stuck, slowly turn the crank clockwise and counterclockwise to ensure it turns smoothly. We also recommend periodically checking whether the pull rope near the top of the umbrella pole is knotted, whether the pulley rotates normally, and whether the pull rope is in the middle of the pulley.
A wooden or metal pole is not designed to be used inside a pool, but can be used near a pool.
If there is an accumulation of mold between the wooden umbrella frame, you can follow the below steps to remove it: (1). Add a teaspoon of soap to a spray bottle filled with water and shake it up. (2). Spray the affected area and use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away the mold, sponging up any excess liquid as you clean. (3). Dry the surface completely with a towel and add some some furniture wax in case it gets mold again.
3. General tip:
Close it and use a umbrella cover to protect it when not in use. If you want to store it for next summer, store it in a dry, shaded location. Always make sure it is completely dry before storing it.

The size of your area: To maximize shade, make sure the patio umbrella is larger that the area you want to cover. A good rule of thumb is that the umbrella should extend 2-2 1/2 feet beyond the edge of the area you wish to cover.
The diameter of the table hole/base tube: The most common pole size is 1 1/2" in diameter, however, it can vary, and some larger umbrellas can have a pole with a 2' diameter. Be sure check the size of your base or table to make sure the umbrella will fit.
2. Decide the frame material.
There are 3 different frame material: Metal, Wooden and Fiberglass.
Wooden pole:
Is more elegant than metal and it pairs best with wooden furniture.
Please keep in mind that wooden umbrellas usually open via a pulley and pin system, which can harder to open.
Not as durable as metal or fiberglass.
Metal pole:
Can give your patio a modern look and are ideal for both commercial and residential spaces.
Often comes with a crank that makes opening the umbrella easier.
May getting rusted if kept out during wet weather.
Fiberglass pole:
Is lightweight, durable, and far more flexible than wood or metal. It is suitable for windy areas.
