Cat-Proof Your Home For the Holidays
For some of us, the holidays are all about the decorations. So many families can spend hours hanging Christmas string lights, erecting Christmas trees, and taping fake snow just to have it ripped down by their furry best friend! As much as we love our cool cats and kittens, sometimes they can be a bit destructive, especially when referencing our holiday decorations. The schism between your cat and your Christmas tree may seem never-ending. It may seem impossible, but there are a few ways to keep your holiday decorations safe from your cat, even when you’re away from home.
Use The Sound Of Bells
For hundreds of years, cat owners have attached bells to their pet’s collars to minimize their sneakiness and to keep a working knowledge of where their pet is at all times. The same principle can be applied to your Christmas tree. So this year, attach bells to the bottom of your tree and your more expensive ornaments to the top.
Cat-Proof Your Garland
Traditional tinsel may not be toxic to cats, but it can still harm them. Because tinsel is not easily digested, it can injure the tongue or the stomach of your cat. For this reason, many veterinarians suggest using paper garlands instead.
Use The Power Of Scented Pinecones
Pinecones are beautiful, natural works of art that can even get the grinch into the Christmas spirit! But, with that said, they can also be used as cleverly disguised bombs that’ll keep your kitties away! All you have to do is spray your pinecones with a bit of apple cider vinegar and place them at the base of your tree. According to medical professionals, apple cider vinegar is a safe deterrent for cats and kittens and will not do any serious harm.
Orange Peels
A great alternative to using apple cider vinegar is decorating with orange peels! Unfortunately, cats take a natural dislike to the scent of orange peels and tend to stay away. However, many eco-friendly decorators take advantage of this kitty hack and place orange peels at the bottom of their trees.

White Glitter
Mod Podge or Elmers Glue
The item you want to cover in snow
Directions:
Step 1: Use a paintbrush to coat the edges of your pinecone, wine bottle, or household item with glue or Mod Podge. It is okay if the globs of glue are uneven in some areas, as it will make the snow piles look more natural.
Step 2: Mix the Epsom salt with white glitter.
Step 3: Sprinkle the glitter mixture on the glue’s surface. Avoid touching the wet glue and glitter.
Step 4: Allow to set and dry for 10 minutes before you dust off the extra salt and hang up

1 THOUGHT ON “YESCOMUSA: CAT PROOF CHRISTMAS TREES: HOW TO KEEP YOUR CAT OUT OF YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE”
KAREN
This blog is great!!! I went ahead and bought one of the spiral xmas trees and they are definitely leaving it alone. I thought that the different modes of LED flashing would get them interested in it but they’re oblivious. I think they may be intimidated by it and that’s JUST what I needed! Plus now I don’t have to clean up the pine needles! Yay! This has made for one happy cat mom! Thanks! P.S. I told my friend about the orange peels since she already had a tree and she said it totally works!
